The Typhoon that hit the Philippines was disastrous. Yesterday I talked to Kenny Sacht who oversees Wipe Every Tear. http://www.wipeeverytear.org/ It is a ministry partner of AIM that works in the Philippines. He said that the current number of people displaced is 4 million, 4 million people without a home and belongings, 4 million people who need hope, 4 million people who need Jesus. AIM has people in the area already who are helping with relief efforts and is gearing up to help for years to come. Please pray for these people. It is so far away and just so easy to forget with so many other things on the news.
One thing Kenny is hearing from them is that they did not understand it was coming. The government told them that it was a “storm surge” and they just didn’t know what that meant. Life is so like this. Sometimes we just don’t see “it” coming. We walk through life and suddenly an illness or difficult situation just takes us out of play. (Cesar and I are well versed in this one.) But, focusing on Jesus and listening to His Word really does help us, and it will help them as well. Christian disaster relief for a situation of this magnitude can bring huge spiritual transformation not only to the individuals, but also to the country as a whole. We saw this happen in Haiti after the earthquake. Praise God who can turn a difficult situation into one that brings healing and hope.
